Christianity simply means following Christ. In The Bible times, not long after Jesus' death, his disciples went around preaching about him and were quickly named (teased as) Christians . They adopted the name and through the years the name has been kept and now is a "religion". You need faith to be a Christian - you have to believe that Jesus really did live and die and that he rose again. You must confess with your mouth and believe in your heart (mind, to yourself) that Jesus really is God and that he is the Lord and Saviour.

Christian means follower of Jesus Christ.

So if someone is calling himself Christian he should try to live up according to the example set by Jesus Christ and obey his commandments. The account of Christ's life on Earth is written in the 4 Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

One of Jesus' commandments is found in Matthew 28:19, 20: "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen." So being a Christian involves proclaiming and making disciples, so people can too become Christians.
