Answer:
Colossians 1:15-17New King James Version (NKJV)15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.
Various translations of Colossians 1:15-17 have posed a problem for many studying this important passage about Jesus' relationship to the creation. But in reality, this passage justifies or proves John 1:1 in that Jesus precedes the creation - seen and unseen or spiritual and physical - and is the Cause of all creation. To see it another way like Jesus is the first creation of God is totally unorthodox and requires a bit of manipulation and overlooking some Greek grammar - a stretch in other words.
Some say 'firstborn of all creation' and translating the 'over' to 'of' in verse 15 proves that Jesus was the first created being and that subsequent verses should be (need be) translated as 'all other things have been created through Him and 'He is before all other things.' But the futility of this attempt to change the meaning to suit their theology is that 'of all creation' in the Greek is in the genitive case - meaning ownership, the term 'other' they insert is NOT in the Greek text anywhere near this verse, and their interpretation of 'begotten.' Thus are the ways of man when he insists upon proving his own interpretations.
Consider the term 'first' as speaking to Christ's PRIORITY to creation and His sovereignty over all of it. Then the grammar part - the phrase 'of all creation' is in fact the object of 'firstborn' and not the other way around as these wrongly assert. Then 'begotten' differs from 'creation.' These words are clearly distinguished in the passage. God begets the Son (for this new relationship as John 1:1-3 infers) but the Son creates the World. God begets God from eternity like man begets man and Creation is different than God. Finally, to put 'other' in this passage is just 'foreign' to this discussion of the text and clearly shows their vain attempts to explain away the meaning of the text that JESUS the CREATOR created all things.
Other passages tell us that Jesus is indeed the first of the firstborn who precedes all who will become the sons and daughters in the God Family. All of creation eagerly awaits our changing into spiritual children:
Romans_8:19" Romans 8:19New King James Version (NKJV)19 For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God.
Paul's letters to the Colossians and Ephesians are closely related epistles that most modern scholars say are not authentic. Among the early Christians, neither Irenaeus nor Eusebius regarded Colossians as authentic. So any analysis of the text must take into account the development of the Christian Church in the second half of the second century, when Colossians is believed to have been written. Colossians was concerned with Church structure and discipline. Colossians 1:15-20 emphasises that God created the world and is the head of the Church of which "I Paul" (1:23,25) am a minister.
colossians
Paul did not start the church in Colossae. According to his epistle to the Colossians (chapter 1, verse 7) Paul states that the Colossians learned about Christ through Epaphras, "fellow slave" of Christ.
15' can mean a length of 15 feet;15' can also mean a length of time of 15 minutes;15' can also mean an angle of 15 minutes (1 minute is 1/60 degree → 15' = 15/60 = 1/4 = 0.25°).It all depends upon the context to give the probable unit for the ' mark.
The NIV has the word' growing' in the following verses ( the KJV does not use the actual term): Genesis 41:5 Genesis 41:22 Exodus 9:22 Exodus 9:25 Exodus 10:5 Exodus 10:12 Exodus 10:15 Deuteronomy 29:23 Job 8:12 Job 21:7 Colossians 1:6 Colossians 1:10 2 Thessalonians 1:3
