What does it mean to be born again in Christ?

Jesus says that "Unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God." (John 3:5) Our biological or physical birth into the world is our first birth. This birth does not bring salvation. Our second birth when we are "born again" is our Baptism by triple immersion into water, which is done in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. This second or spiritual birth is the one that leads us to the kingdom of God. The Church has practised Basptism into "water and the Spirit" from the earliest days, from when Jesus was immersed into the River Jordan by John the Baptist. After baptism, a person is Christmated with holy oil, which represents the Spirit. So to be 'born again spiritually' one needs to be a baptised and chrismated member of the Church.

It means that you believe what Christ says about being a Christian. Basically, The Bible teaches that nobody can earn entrance to heaven. God is holy, and if we have done even one thing wrong, we don't deserve it. No amount of being good changes that. Therefore, God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, who is also God, to be born on earth as a baby. When he grew up, he died on a cross to take the punishment for the wrong we have done. If you admit to God that you have done wrong, and accept that Jesus died for it, you are born again in Christ. This is described in John chapter 3 where Jesus explains 'you must be born again.' In the New Testament book of John, chapter 3 verse 3 (KJV) it reads: Jesus answered and said unto him, verily, verily I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. What Jesus was saying was not a physical re-birth but a spiritual re-birth. We are all born with a sinful nature. Put two small children in a room with one cookie or one toy and see what happens. When you accept Jesus as your Lord and savior and turn from your old sinful ways, you have a spiritual re-birth. You start to live a different life in that you no longer yearn for the old sinful things that were in your past. When we are re-born the Holy Spirit will guide us and help us along. This does not mean that you will never sin again, but that you will not try and live a sinful life. We all slip up but because we are made into a new person, a person of God, then we know that Jesus has taken our sins upon Himself and we are forgiven. We start over again. The main thing of importance is that all sinners are doomed to go to hell. But those that choose Jesus, the Son of God as their savior, will not have to go to hell because He loved us so much, He took our sins, our punishment for us. We are Born again with a new start on life.

You have to get baptized to get "re-born" again

This is what many people believe. Read John 3 for it says a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus came to Jesus in the night and asked Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him. Jesus said unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus said how can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born? Jesus answered and said that which is born of water is flesh and that which is born of The Holy Spirit is spirit. Later Jesus says The wind blows where it will and you hear the sound but cannot tell where it comes from or where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit-speaking of the Holy Spirit of God. Post script-Water dipping is to follow the example of Jesus and John the Baptizer and no one has to have this to be born again.
