'Reprove': transitive verb

1: to scold or correct usually gently or with kindly intent

2: to express disapproval of

Think of it as 're-proving' someone or something said incorrectly or wrongly. A big subject matter for many Christians through the millennia has been the 'trinity' concept which is still debated.

Another thought:

You may be thinking of "reproving WITH the Word of God". All Christians should be using God's Word, The Bible, like a mirror for US to make corrections in ourselves, as well as to correct, reprove and encourage others (2 Timothy 4:2)(Titius 1:9). Therefore, the Bible tells us: "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works."(2 Timothy 3:16+17)
