Mt 19:9 "And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery."

Originally protestants believed that a divorced woman was a 'fallen woman' , and only the first 2 reasons (fornication and adultery) were grounds for divorce, then 'desertion' was allowed. Now, there is no difference either between the divorce rates for christian and secular couples, or the many reasons for them, this leading to "no-fault divorce" thus avoiding apportioning blame and not having "guilty'' and "innocent" parties. It is now a case of what you can get away with. Pity about the kids.
