In German, the word "fichte" means "spruce", but in the Bavarian dialect "Fichte" is spelled like "Feichtn". So the ancestor of a man called Feichtner could have been some Bavarian who had something to do with spruces, most probably he cut them down. "Feichtner" is a name which is still quite common in Bavaria.
