What does this mean God won't put more on us then we can bear?

Well, in tempting the Christian He won't:

"No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it."

1 Corinthians 10:13

And also, we must remember, as a Christian that does God's will we can say:

"I can do all things through him who strengthens me."

Philippians 4:13

As it may not be clear to the reader from the great answer above, God does not tempt anyone. He allows the evil one to tempt mankind up to their abilities to withstand. He tests His children this way to see if they truly desire to follow His Way of Love. Read the Book of Job for a great example of testing.

If one believes in God then one must acknowledge that God apparently does place more burden on many people than they can bear. Many people collapse under the weight of their misfortunes. Many people suffer such horrific life experiences that they lose their ability to function at all. Many people commit suicide because they cannot cope with their burdens. A person need only look around and be aware of what goes on in the world to know this question is not logical because there are situations of people not being able to carry their burdens all around us.

It means that God cares for us, no matter what difficulties we may be facing in life. We were never promised an easy time of it, because we choose to love and serve God, but we have a loving Father that will go through to tough times with us.
