There are no portraits of anyone or paintings of animals, as this may cause the Muslim to worship the painting instead of God. There are no statues or 'idols' for the same reason. To decorate the mosque there is patterns and often photo's/paintings of the great mosque's such as the Kabbah in Mecca. Also Muslims decorate the mosque with Scripture from the Qu'ran. In richer countries there is often a decorative carpet. Mosque's are, overall, quite plain though.
