The Hittite pantheon changed over time until, around the time of Hattusili III and his queen, Puduhepa, they seemed to adopt a standardized pantheon around Hurrian names for the gods (in most cases). The Hittites were proud to call their homeland, Hatti, "the land of a thousand gods," and would typically bring home the gods of conquered peoples to worship in their own land.

The two main deities appear to have been the Sun Goddess of Arinna and the Storm God (Tarhunt in Luwian and Teshub in Hurrian).
