What happened to Enoch?

Enoch was a righteous man of God who escaped death. The 11th chapter of Hebrews states, "By faith Enoch was taken from this life. He did not experience death, because God had taken him away. For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God." We do not know much about Enoch's life, but we know that he walked with God, and God rewarded him for it.

The Bible does not tell us his age upon his death but it does tell us that no one has gone to heaven except Jesus (see John 3:13). In Hebrews, chapter 11, Paul tells us the following:

Hebrews 11:5New American Standard Bible (NASB)5 By faith Enoch was taken up so that he would not see death; and he was not found because God took him up; for he obtained the witness that before his being taken up he was pleasing to God.

It varies slightly depending upon the translation in use, but the term 'taken' can also be 'transferred' and this seems to be the meaning here as Jesus told us Scripture cannot be broken and must agree fully (see John 10:35).

Further evidence supporting 'transferred' away or elsewhere. Consider Elijah and Philip in 2 Kings 2:11 and Acts 8:39, respectively. They too were taken away or transferred to a place of safety so they would not be killed where they were.

In any event, there are several interpretations about Enoch and Elijah but the Bible does not give us conclusive information as to what or when they died as Paul concluded in Hebrews 11 here:
