The Story of Jephthah can be found in Judges chapters 11 and 12. Jephthah - יפתח served as one of the Judges in Israel for a period of six years between the conquest of Canaan and the first king. Jephthah lived in the Gilead area and was a member of the Tribe of Menasheh. Before going out to war he vowed that were he to be victorious he would sacrifice the first thing that would come out of his to home to meet him. After his victory his daughter came out to meet him. Whether she was sacrificed or held in solitude for the rest of her life is a matter of dispute.
