MarkMark's Gospel was the first canonical gospel, written approximately 70 CE. In this, three women, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Salome, came at dawn to the sepulchre. On the way, they began to wonder how they would move the heavy stone that blocked the entrance to the tomb, but when they got there they found it had already been moved. Inside was a young man who told the two woman that Jesus was risen and that they should tell the disciples to go to Galilee, where they would see Jesus again. The women fled in terror and told no one. The earliest known manuscripts of Mark do not have a resurrection narrative beyond this point.

The "long ending" (Mark 16:9-20) resurrection appearances were added by later interpolators to bring this gospel more or less into line with the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. In this, Jesus then appeared to Mary Magdalene and she went and told the disciples. Then he appeared in another form to two of them on the road, although whether two women (as in Matthew) or two men (as in Luke) is not stated. Afterwards he appeared to the eleven as they say at a meal, and told them to preach.

He said that Jesus was risen and told the women to tell the disciples. The women saw Jesus later while on the way to tell the disciples of their experience. The men of the guard went to the chief priests, who gave them money to say that the disciples had taken Jesus away in the night. LukeIn Luke's Gospel, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and other women went very early in the morning to the sepulchre. As in Mark, the stone had already been moved when they arrived, but there is no mention of an earthquake. This time, two men in shining garments, apparently angels, appeared to the women inside the tomb. They said that Jesus was risen as he had promised he would. The women went and told of their experience to the eleven and all the rest. Peter ran to the sepulchre and, looking inside, saw the linen clothes. The same day, Jesus appeared to two men, Cleopas and another, but they did not recognise him, even after conversing with him, inviting him home, and eating dinner with him in the village of Emmaus. They only assumed that he was Jesus based on his words and behaviour, but then he vanished out of their sight. At his next appearance, in Jerusalem, Jesus went to some lengths to assure them that he really was Jesus, showing the disciples his wounds, and finally led them out to Bethany, where he was drawn up into heaven. All this happened on the day of the resurrection, in and near Jerusalem. JohnIn John's Gospel, only Mary Magdalene went to the sepulchre and saw the stone had been moved. She ran and told Peter and "the disciple whom Jesus loved", who ran back to the tomb. Peter went in and saw only the linen clothes and the napkin. Next "the disciple whom Jesus loved" went in, saw and believed. Only after they left did Mary see two angels in the sepulchre. Mary afterwards saw Jesus standing and knew not that it was Jesus, supposing that he was the gardener.

The next two appearances are quite similar to a single appearance in Luke's Gospel except, as Elaine Pagels points out in Beyond Belief: The Secret Gospel of Thomas (2003), the account seems intended to disadvantage the disciple Thomas, who was absent in the first meeting [Pagels identifies a thread of anti-Thomas narrative in John's Gospel.]. Jesus appeared to the ten disciples assembled for dinner on the first night, and showed them his hands and his side, and breathed on them, giving them the Holy Ghost.

Nothing much happened on Saturday, the day after Good Friday. It all happened on eEaster Sunday. When Jesus Christ did arise from the dead.

Jesus was in the tomb as the only sign of His Messiahship was to be in the tomb 3 full days and 3 full nights - 72 hours. Any thing less or more would negate this only sign given. Therefore, no matter how one counts days and nights (partially or fully 24 hours), Jesus could not of died @ 3:00 PM Friday and risen in the dark hours of Sunday (before sunrise @ 6:00 AM presumed) when He was seen. This at best gives you 39 hours or 2 days stretching the way to count.

The proper scenario is Jesus dying at 3:00 PM Wednesday, Passover, 31 AD. Being entombed just before sunset of the start of the Feast of Unleavened Bread. Remaining in the tomb Wed, Thurs, Fri, evenings and Thurs, Fri, Sat, day just before sunset when the weekly Sabbath ended Saturday - 72 full hours. Sometime after sunset, in the dark of Sunday (Jewish calendar days begins at sunset and ends at sunrise). Scripture supports this scenario.
