Religion established morals in the world

In most religions, people believe in afterlives, such as heaven and hell. When religion developed in the world, people started fearing that they would not have a good afterlife (since afterlives are for eternity in most religions; you would probably want your afterlife to be nice). So, they created morals and ethics so that they would know how to be good people so they could achieve a good afterlife. This eventually evolved to the laws that we have today, in which we don't need religion to tell us what's right or wrong.
