What if Jesus hadn't died for our sins?

This is one of the best questions I've seen on here. Who knows what would have happened. Most people wouldn't have faith in God or believe in god as much. But I don't think it would have been that bad.

We will never know. In order to answer your question, we would have to know the answers to two other questions. 1. If Jesus is the Messiah, does that mean that every event of his life was divinely Fated to happen so as to save the world? 2. (Assuming Jesus is the Messiah) Did Jesus's mere existence on earth save the world or was the world saved only by his sacrifice of his own life on the cross? We do not really know the answer to either of these questions; we can only guess. If the answer to the first question is yes, then your question is not valid; there is no way that Jesus would not have died on the cross: it was Fated to happen. I disagree. I do not think that every event of Jesus's life was divinely Fated to happen. I think that he had free will. And I think that he chose to let himself be killed when he could have done otherwise. However, most of the Christian philosophers who agree with me on this also say that Jesus's mere existence on earth saved the world. But I disagree with that too. I think that Jesus's allowing himself to be killed on the cross was the way in which he made himself the Messiah. He defied the evolutionary response of fight-or-flight that dominates us all. By doing this, he saved us. Therefore, I answer your question by saying that if Jesus had not died on the cross, he would have failed to be the Messiah, and we would have no way out of sin's domination of the earth.

If Jesus didn't die for our sins, then the entire New Testament would be pointless - and worthless. All the people who are Christians now, if they wanted to remain faithful to what would then be left of The Bible, would find themselves at the closest synagogue, taking Hebrew lessons, and studying for their Bar or Bat Mitzvah. Uncircumcised males would have to receive circumcision. However, I don't think the newly disenfranchised Christians would suffer worshiping in a faith where there was no atoning blood sacrifice of some kind. The Bible is very specific about that.

Leviticus 17:11 (King James Version):

11For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that makes an atonement for the soul.

There would be all kinds of unsavory ramifications if Jesus had not died for our sins.

The Apostle Paul entertained the notion to the following extent.

1 Corinthians 15 (KJV):

14And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.

15Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God

that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not.

16For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:

17And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.

18Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.

19If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.

20But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. 1 Corinthian 15:14-20 (King James Version)

The fact is, Jesus did die for our sins, and He came back from the dead.
