Peter saw a vision that prepared him for the visit of Cornelius' messengers who asked him to return with them to him. Cornelius, who was a godly man, heard the Gospel from Peter and became the first gentile convert to Christianity.

AnswerCornelius was a centurion in the Italian Regiment. Cornelius and his family were very religious people, and he put his faith into action by giving to those in need. While praying one afternoon, Cornelius had a vision from God which indicated that God was pleased with him. In the vision, an angel told Cornelius that God had heard his prayers and that he was to send for Peter who was in Joppa at the time. Peter was staying at the house of a tanner. Jews considered tanners unclean and avoided them. God used a vision to show Peter that all peoples were of equal value to Him and, therefore, all peoples should have the opportunity to hear the gospel message. Cornelius' men arrived in Joppa and gave Peter the invitation to come to Caesarea to speak with Cornelius. Peter accepted the invitation. Peter pointed out that he took the risk of entering the home of an uncircumcised Gentile because God had shown him that he should not think of anyone as unclean or inferior. Peter had the opportunity to share the gospel with a large group of Gentiles in Cornelius' home. Many of them believed in Jesus. From those experiences, the Christian Jews learned that God has no favourites, but that He accepts any person who fears Him and live righteously.
