What is Islam's authority?

The Qur'an is a book which was bestowed upon prophet Mohammed (pbuh) and is believed to be a holy book written by God himself. The fact that the Prophet himself followed this book and it is written by God is why it is believed to be an authority for truth.

The Almighty Allah is the sole Authority over all things, and His revelation Al Quran is the Authority over the Muslim Ummah, it is the Book whereof there is no doubt, a clear guidance unto mankind, men of understanding who follow the school of understanding i.e. The most learned Ulama of Truth are the appointed representatives of the Holy Quran.

No man has real authority mankind who follow the guidelines of Al Quran are but representatives who make Fatwa (judgement) by the Holy Quran and only if need be he/ she may use Hadith as the backing of the Fatwa (judgement"s") made.
