A hidden theme in Acts of the Apostles is a comparison between Peter and Paul, such that Peter always comes across as the more worthy apostle, and we will find quite a number of very similar miracles involving both Peter and Paul, but in each case Peter's miracle was even more awe-inspiring and worthy than the miracle performed by Paul. Peter was released from prison by angels, who accompanied Peter from the prison (Acts 12:7-11). The story permits no doubt about the extent of divine assistance Peter received in his escape. When Paul was released from prison, no angel came to him, and the earthquake need not have been of divine origin.
