Cecilia was noted for converting her pagan husband and his brother to Christitanity. She and her family then made it their ministry to provide proper burials to Christian martyrs. Her husband and his brother were arrested and martyred for doing this. When Cecilia went to recover their bodies she, too, was taken prisoner. The authorities tried to kill he by suffocation but failed. They next tried to behead her but were unable to do so with the maximum of three sword blows allowed by law. She lay three days dying and, during this time, she distributed all her wealth to the Church. Nearly 14 centuries later her body was found incorrupt.
