Kyosaku, Jp., lit. "wake-up stick" which is used on persons sitting in seated mediation (zazen). When they become drowsy, they are struck on the shoulders with the kyosaku. The stick is flat which makes a loud sound. It doesn't hurt and is, in fact, stimulating helping one to overcome fatigue.
I am not aware that there is such a stick in Christianity but in Zen Buddhism it is called Keisaku. In Zen Buddhism, Keisaku is an attempt by a sensei to alert students to their mindlessness in Zazen (sitting meditation) through a strike, usually administered by a stick on the shoulders. An English translation is stick of compassion. == == == ==
Oh honey, zen is not the currency of any country. Zen is actually a state of calmness and mindfulness, not something you can use to buy your morning latte. So, unless you can pay for your groceries with inner peace, you might want to stick to good old-fashioned dollars and cents.
The plural of "zen" is also "zen." The word "zen" does not change in the plural form.
