Since Judaism has been around for something like 4000 years, it has been involved in a lot of historical events. There is also a lot of mythology surrounding those events. For example, The Bible claims that Jews were slaves in Egypt for 400 years, but based on other historical sources that does not appear to have actually happened. Perhaps the single most momentous event in Judaism was the Holocaust in which six million Jews were murdered. Judaism has been a tremendously influential religion, giving rise to both Christianity and Islam, which are the two religions with the largest membership. Jews have often been hated and persecuted by the Christians and Muslims whose own religions are largely derived from Judaism. On the whole, the history of Judaism is very tragic.
Today Judaism is locked in a mortal struggle for control of Israel, with Muslims who also consider that to be a sacred land that their religion requires them to possess. This conflict has had many tragic consequences and there is no end in sight.
