There is no such thing as a "name" for a soul in purgatory. They are just souls in the interim location between heaven and hell, being purified by the flames so that they can get to heaven.
Note: I personally believe that purgatory doesn't exist and that there is only heaven and hell. Jesus is the only way for the suffering is forever, not just temporary.
Roman Catholic AnswerIn Christian theology, there are only two states in which one can end: heaven or hell. There are, however, until the end of the world, three states in which those destined for heaven exist, they are commonly called the Church Militant (members of Christ's Church on earth); the Church Triumphant (the souls in Heaven); and the Church Suffering, which is comprised of the souls detained in purgatory. Please note that purgatory is not so much a place as a state in which God purifies a soul that has died, that is destined for heaven, and is not perfect, as nothing imperfect can enter heaven. This state (or "place" if you will) will cease to exist at the end of the world as everyone will either be in heaven or hell. The holy souls
Among groups who believe that the body will physically reside in purgatory, the soul is presumed to stay with the body. Many Christian sects believe that the soul suffers in purgatory, while the body remains interred (or whatever) until resurrection.
According to general Catholic teaching, the primary "pain" of Purgatory is that the soul is not yet in union with God (Heaven).
Yes, according to Catholic belief, a plenary indulgence can release a soul from purgatory by removing the temporal punishment due for sins that have already been forgiven.
In Catholic belief, the soul in purgatory undergoes purification to cleanse it of sins before entering heaven. This process involves suffering and repentance to achieve spiritual purification.
When someone dies, according to the Catholic Church, the soul leaves the body. Then the soul will rise and be judged based on the life that the soul lived. If the soul has accepted Christ as lord, and still has sin it will not be let into the Kingdom of God. Now that certainly doesn't mean that the soul is sent to hell, the soul goes to a place called purgatory. Purgatory is a place with the soul is "purged" of sin. Then when the soul is clean of sin then it will enter Heaven.
Yes, that does sound heretical to me.
Dante believes that prayers for the dead can help them in Purgatory because he views prayer as a form of intercession that can alleviate a soul's suffering and expedite its journey towards salvation. In Dante's theology, the power of prayer can counterbalance the weight of a soul's sins and facilitate its purification in Purgatory.

It means when a soul dies and has not had the last rites they slip into purgatory which is neither hell nor heaven. Purgatory can be looked on as a temporary hell where a soul suffers for its unforgiven sins and then goes on to heaven. It's a Roman Catholic concept. Its a place where you go after you die if you are not worthy to get into Heaven yet, but not bad enough to go to hell
OpinionYes, when a soul enters purgatory it begins the cleansing process, (removal of sins) so the soul can be purely good and so worthy to be entirely in God's presence (heaven). In other words a soul in heaven is guarenteed a place in heaven.OpinionSome churches believe that Purgatory is a temporary state before you can go to heaven. While some other churches believe that it is a place for those not good enough for heaven, but too good for hell; and once in purgatory you remain there indefinitely.Other churches do not believe there is a purgatory at all; they believe that after death people go directly to heaven or hell depending on how God judges them.
