ANSWER

A person, who for religious or other reasons does not eat meat is called a vegetarian. There are those go further and do not consume animal products eg. milk, butter, eggs or animal hides. These people are known as vegans. Some religions who refuse to eat meat are Buddhists, a percentage of Hindus, Sikhs, and the Hare Krishna faithful. Buddhists in particular consider all life as sacred and in the process of evolution and will not eat meat for this reason. Vegetarianism is not always based on religious grounds. Some people for philosophical reasons not necessarily connected to religion become vegetarian because of the unnecessary violence involved in the slaughter of any living creature. For Buddhists meat eating is akin to cannibalsim.
