Every Hebrew verb has the possibility of up to 7 paradigms (patterns or conjugations). Not all verb roots have a verb in all 7 paradigms.

Binyan kal (קל) is the verb paradigm also known as pa'al (פעל). It is the simplest conjugation for Hebrew verbs, and usually indicates simple, active voice verbs.

The other 6 paradigms are:

nif'al (נפעל)

pi'el (פיעל)

pu'al (פועל)

hif'il (הפעיל)

huf'al (הופעל)

hitpa'el (התפעל)
