There's nothing intrinsically 'good' in having a Buddha statue any more than it would be 'bad' NOT to have one. This judgementalist approach is actually against the Buddhist concept of duality- where good and bad co-exist in nature and human behaviour. What having a Rupa (or statue) in your possession would help do is focus your mind on something away from day to day thinking distractions whilst meditating. In this way it becomes an antidote to materialistic pressures in everyday life and hopefully enables the adherent to find the 'middle way' - between having/not having and good/bad also! Further, it can act as a reminder that at all times our inner thoughts are most important in finding understanding- but again that is down to 'the person' & not the Buddha.

There is no "Good Luck" Buddha. You may be thinking of the statues of Hotei found in many Chinese establishments (aka the Laughing Buddha or the Laughing Chinaman). He is sometimes looked on as a bringer of prosperity and happiness. He is more properly associated with the Shinto religion of Japan.
He started a whole new religion. I believe that this is a good religion.
