Algiers, Algeria is the city of contrasts, from traditional buildings, to French colonial architecture. Algiers is on the coast of Africa, there is an endless shoreline full of wonderful beaches surrounding it. The only currency is local Dinars so whatever money you have with you, change it at the airport. Goods are openly displayed on the street and small shops are everywhere around Algiers, not necessarily only in the market area. The famous Casbah of Algiers was built in the early 16th century as an Ottoman Fort and palace for the local ruler and is wonderful to explore the narrow streets, with houses and shops. It’s the old town of Algiers. The thing to do in the casbah is to wander around the small streets and enjoy the atmosphere. Use safety precautions as theft is a major issue so make sure to use a local guide when touring the area. Algiers, Algeria has impressive colonial architecture, and wonderful views of the Mediterranean sea. It is a very beautiful city and it would be nothing without its remarkable architecture.
