Both the Eastern Rite Catholics and the Latin Rite Catholics celebrate the same sacraments: Baptism Confirmation Reconciliation Eucharist Marriage Holy Orders Anointing of the Sick
The Pentitential Rite at the beginning of Mass is when we confess our sins and are absolved by the priest's blessing of venial (less serious) sins. Mortal (serious) sins must still be confessed in the sacrament of Penance (Confession).

In the Roman Catholic Church, the Penitential Rite is a part of the Introductory Rites of the Mass. The Penitential Rite is a time of reflection on one's sins and a prayer for God's mercy. While the Penitential Rite is similar to the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation, the priest does not offer absolution; this differs from Anglicanism, where absolution is offered during the Penitential Rite.

In fact there are 4 sometimes 5 elements to sacramental confession in the Catholic Church. These mirror closely what we find in the story of the Prodigal Son in the Gospel of Luke 15.The son left his Father's house and went into a far country. This is going away from God. Then he descended to the level of pigs. This is losing his Christian and human dignity through sin.He comes to his senses: ContritionHe says: I will say to my Father, "Father I have sinned against heaven and against you". Notice the Father lets him 'confess' his sins, not for the Father's sake, but for his son's sake. The Father forgives his son:The son would just like to be treated just like a paid servant. This is his attempt at satisfaction or reparationContrition = I feel very sorry for what I didConfession = I confess my sins to the priestAbsolution = The priest forgives me my sinsSatisfaction or reparation = after confession I do some penance to repair the damage.
