Some synagogues have pews, others have folding chairs, others have anything inbetween. Many synagogues have no special chairs, certainly none with a special name. Some, however, have a special ornate chair, the Chair of Elijah, used only during ritual circumcision. The sandek (sometimes translated godfather) sits there holding the baby boy in his lap during the circumcision. I have served as sadek, but we just used a regular chair because we didn't have a special chair reserved for this purpose.
