Wesak
1. The birth of Buddha (as prince Siddhartha), 2. The Enlightenment, 3. The Passing away of Buddha
Buddhists celebrate Rohatsu - the enlightenment of the Buddha. It is also known as Bodhi day :-)
Wesak Day, also known as Buddha Day, is celebrated on the full moon in May. In 2021, it fell on May 26. This day commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and death of Gautama Buddha.
Buddhists do not celebrate Thanksgiving. The two Buddhist holidays are Buddha's birthday and the Enlightenment Day. Buddha's birthday is in the spring and the Enlightenment Day is in the winter.
It a holiday celebrating buddah. Of course that means that buddhists celebrate it.
Buddhist people celebrate special days such as Vesak, which commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and death of the Buddha, as well as Kathina, when new robes are offered to monks after the end of the monastic retreat. Other important days include Parinirvana Day, celebrating the Buddha's death, and Uposatha days, which are observed with increased focus on meditation, precepts, and Dhamma study.
In Buddhist tradition, it is said that Buddha was allowed to eat a maximum of one seed per day. This practice is known as the "one seed a day" rule. The purpose of this rule was to cultivate mindfulness, moderation, and detachment from material desires. By limiting his consumption to just one seed, Buddha demonstrated discipline and self-control in his pursuit of enlightenment.
Buddha's Birthday is known as Vesak or Visakah Puja (Buddha's Birthday Celebrations). Vesak is the major Buddhist festival of the year as it celebrates the birth, enlightenment and death of the Buddha on the one day, the first full moon day in May.
Buddhism has no single "holy" day of the week such as Friday for Muslims, Saturday for Jews or Sunday for Christians. This is due to the fact that there is no deity in Buddhism. Each day to a follower of the Dharma (the Buddha's teachings) is special because it is a new day with new opportunities. Buddhism does has a number of celebrations, mostly of significant events in Buddha's life, such as Vesak, the Buddha's birthday, or Bodhi day, the day that the Buddha became enlightened.
Buddha is actually not fat like all of his statues, that is the god of happiness in a different religion. The people introducing this religion found it more convenient to introduce a new religion with a failure face, creating the "Buddha" we know today. Buddha was an East Indian prince, one day he decided to sneak out of his home that restricted him from the outside world. When he saw the distraught and starvation of his land, he felt sorrowful. That day altered everything he knew and he began his journey of enlightenment. After many days of fasting he realizes that starvation is not the way to enlightenment and decides to meditate over his many questions. He finds many answers in the process and many followers as well. Making the "Buddhism" we know today I recommend the book "What Would Buddha Do" It’s amazing
Wesak or Vesak is not a religion, it is holiday or celebration in the Buddhist calendar. it is often described as Buddha's Birthday in the West, but it involves several other facets of the life of Gautama Buddha. Wesak is celebrated during the months of Aril or May on the Gregorian calander, by that calendar it is mobile event like Easter. The exact date varies as it is calculated on the lunar calendars used in many Asian countries and the Buddhist tradition that the celebrants follow. The date is usually associated with the full moon in one of the lunar months.
Their are quite a few festivals which depend on the type of Buddhist you are e.g. Kathina, Chokhor Duchen but the main festival is Vesak (or Wesak) which marks the date when the Buddha was born, was enlightened and passed into nirvana (death).
