An adult baptism is different because, in a babies baptism the godparents and parents make the commitment to Christ in adult baptism, the participant says the words. Also in adult baptism, the parents don't come up, a sponsor goes up with the participant.

The primary difference is that in an infant baptism, the Godparents make the baptismal promises for the infant. Once that child has reached the age of reason and are young adults, they make the same promises themselves at Confirmation. In an adult baptism, the candidate makes the baptismal promises himself/herself and Confirmation is then conferred along with the Baptism.

Many churches don't baptise infants as they believe it should be their choice later on in life, instead infants are often dedicated but not with water. Adult baptism is when we make a choice to be baptised.

Infant Baptism is when a baby, usually less than a year old, is baptized. Typically, infant baptisms are not done by immersion.

A Believer's Baptism is when someone who is old enough to understand the Gospel and believe in it is baptized. Different churches and denominations have different minimum age requirements (and some have no age requirements). Common ages for Believer's Baptisms are 8, 12, or 18. Some Believers baptisms are done by immersion and others are not.

In the baptist church infant baptism is a dedication in which the family and congregation recognizes that the child is their responsibility to nurture and bring up in the knowledge of Jesus Christ. To some it reminds them that the child is "safe" until they reach the age of "accountability." It does not imply full membership in the church until a profession of faith by the individual is done.
The adult baptism symbolizes the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ and that the one being baptized is following Jesus. Someone who is baptized has professed his faith in Jesus Christ and promises to accept the path of Jesus in his everyday life and in all he does.

In the beginning chapters of the book of John (1-3) baptism is an outward sign of repentance of sin and salvation. Though even an infant may be saved, he/she is not making the decision to do this. The concept of infant baptism is found nowhere in The Bible. This is a tradition the Catholic Church implemented a long time ago.
