What is the importances of religions education?

Religious education - in a specific religion - can in fact be quite dangerous, depending on the religion (i.e., some are more dangerous than others).However, I believe that a study of comparative religions - i.e., learning about the beliefs of many different of the world's religions - can be quite useful, to help develop an "open mind".
