It is traditional for all Mormons to be buried in white, and some members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) choose to be buried wearing their sacred Temple robes. These Temple robes include a white veil for a woman or a white hat for men. The woman's veil covers the top of the head and so may look somewhat like a hat when they are laying down in the casket. This is the only time that Mormons are permitted to show the sacred Temple clothing to anyone outside of the walls of the Temple.

While it is acceptable to ask respectfully curious questions about the Temple clothing when you see it worn by the deceased at a funeral, please note that the clothing is considered extremely sacred and that Mormons will be extremely offended by any percieved mocking or irreverance. Some may also hesitate to answer any questions, because they don't want to speak of sacred things too lightly.

Why was FDR buried in a 600 lbs casket?

Oh, dude, FDR was buried in a 600 lbs casket because he was a pretty big deal, you know? Like, he was the longest-serving president in U.S. history, so I guess they wanted to make sure he had a solid resting place. Plus, those casket makers probably saw it as a great marketing opportunity – "If it's good enough for FDR, it's good enough for you!"
