The Atonement is one word that encompasses three of the greatest things that Christ did for us:

1) He suffered in the Garden of Gethsemane where he took upon himself the sins, pains, sufferings, temptations of all man-kind. 2) His Death on the cross. 3) His resurrection on the third day.

These three events comprise the Atonement. It is only through the Atonement that we can become clean from our sins through His suffering in Gethsemane. We will also one day all be resurrected because He was. This word is widely misunderstood, but should be a word that has meaning deep in the hearts of every follower of Christ, and really the whole world, whether you follow Christ or not, because it affects us all. Through the Atonement we can become clean from our wrong doings, sins. We can repent and literally have them washed away as if they never happened. But this gift is not free. It requires that we give ourselves to Christ, follow him, and shun sin. If we are willing to do what he has asked (have faith in him, repent of our sins, be baptized in his name, receive the Holy Ghost, and persevere to the end) we can receive the greatest of all the gifts of God, Eternal Life -- To live with Him again.

What is Covenant Theology?

Covenant Theology is based on the several Covenants between God and humans recorded in Scripture. Covenant Theology differs from other schools of Christian theology by placing emphasis on the community rather than on individual salvation. Why were the christian diciples given the ability to speak many languages?

Though the term disciple does mean someone who believes and helps to spread the doctrine of another, it is used mainly to describe any follower of Christ. Those who received the Gift of Tongues applies mainly to the Twelve Apostles. It is they who were commanded to do go and preach Christs words, in doing so were given the Gift of Tongues. One must also remember that some of those who listened to the Apostles preach were given the gift to hear in their own language what the Apostles preached, though they did so in their own tongue.
