There are different color schemes of these priestly costumes. For example Green is usually a happy occasion- obviously St. Patrick"s day. Red vestments in honoring the martyrdom of a saint- red signifying Blood, white- purity, Purple- passion in the religious sense, in the passion tide in Lent, Black- mourning obviously and so on. Different costumes for different rites. In the Ambrosian rite- Red is used for joyous occasions ( St. Nicholas would concur, sorry about the joke) and in the Ambrosian riter Advent is six weeks, not four- so St. Nicholas ( dec. o6 would be inside advent)
