Answer: Several things are important about the manner in which Jesus socialised: 1) He spoke to woman whom He did not know in public (John 4) which was unacceptable; even the woman was surprised. 2) He spoke to Samaritans (John 4), who were considered, by Jews, to be unfaithful to the Covenant and almost heretical. Orthodox Jews would never speak to a Samaritan, and even walk around their territory if going from Judea to Galilea. 3) Jesus conversed with pagans, and even praised them (Matthew 6:6-13) (Matthew 15:22-28) 4) He touched the bier of a dead young man (Luke 7:11) making Him ritually unclean. 5) Jesus allowed a prostitute to touch him in the house of a Pharisee (7:36) scandalising his respectable host. 6) Instead of just healing people, Jesus touched those considered to be unclean: the man with the skin disease (Matthew 8), the blind man (Mark 8:22 7) He ate with people considered to be sinners, and thus unable to enter the Temple (Luke 5:29) Remember that, at the time of Jesus, many people believed that sickness was a punishment for some sin that had been committed. 'Respectable' folk did not associate with such people.
