The main idea is in the first verse: "The Lord is my shepherd."

Shepherd means the Lord calls and leads his sheep, - "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me" (Jn.10.27). Shepherds still do this with their sheep in some countries where there are no farm fences. But modern day shepherds in most developed countries drive their sheep with dogs and do not lead them, but keep them fenced in.
