What is the view of Jesus in the Islamic faith?

The same with the christian belief system with one slight difference. the difference is that Jesus(Esa) is believed as the prophet of god, not the son of god. additionally Jesus is a well respected prophet in the Islamic perspective and Virgin Mary is the name of a separate chapter in Quran(Meryem)

The Almighty Allah says:

(إِنَّ مَثَلَ عِيسَى عِنْدَ اللَّهِ كَمَثَلِ آَدَمَ خَلَقَهُ مِنْ تُرَابٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهُ كُنْ فَيَكُونُ)Which is translated into:

(For God the likeness of Jesus is as that of Adam whom he created out of dust, then said to him "Be", and he was).

So, it's illogical to attribute the divinity to Jesus PBUH since He was created without a father because Adam PBUH was created without neither a father nor a mother. Allah, the Omnipotent is capable of creating anything just by command 'be' then 'it is'.

1. Miraculous Birth of Jesus to Virgin Mary

For example, in Sura (chapter) 19, titled Maryam (Mary), verse 16-34, Quran provides an extensive account of Jesus' birth to Virgin Mary by the Holy Spirit. It describes the stressful moments Holy Mary had to go through because of the accusations of her associates. But she was ultimately relieved when the new born Jesus gave testimony to her mother's chastity and declared himself as Allah's (God's) prophet:

Thereupon she pointed towards the child; they said, "How can we speak to an infant who is in the cradle?" (29) The child proclaimed, "I am Allah's servant; He has given me the scripture and made me a prophet." (30) "And He has made me blessed wherever I be; and ordained upon me prayer and charity, as long as I live." (31) "And has made me good to my mother and not made me forceful, ill-fated." (32) "And peace is upon me the day I was born, and on the day I shall taste death, and on the day I will be raised alive." (33) This is Jesus, the son of Mary; a true statement, in which they doubt. (34)

2. Miracles and Blessings of Jesus

Allah in Sura Ma'ida relates one of His conversations with Jesus to Prophet Muhammad where He reminds Jesus of His many blessings including the miracles he performed by Allah's command:

Remember when Allah said, "O Jesus, son of Mary! Remember My favour upon you and your mother; when I supported you with the Holy Spirit; you were speaking to people from the cradle and in maturity; and when I taught you the scripture and wisdom and the Torah and the Gospel; and when you used to mould a birdlike sculpture from clay, by My command, and blow into it - so it started to fly by My command, and you used to cure him who was born blind and cure the leper, by My command; and when you used to raise up the dead, by My command; and when I restrained the Descendants of Israel against you when you came to them with clear proofs, and the disbelievers among them said, 'This is nothing but clear magic'." (5:110)

Contrasts:Yet Islamic view of Jesus contrasts with Christianity in some important respects.

1. Rejection of Trinity and Divinity of Jesus

In Sura Ma'ida, Allah recounts His conversation with Jesus in which Jesus rejects having ever declared himself or his mother as deities, apparently rejecting the doctrine of Trinity:

And when Allah will ask: "O Jesus, son of Mary, did you say to mankind: 'Worship me and my mother as two deities apart from Allah?' (Jesus) will answer: "Allah forbid. In Sura Nisa, referring to Christians of Prophet Muhammad's time as "people of the scripture," Quran explicitly denounces the doctrine of Trinity:

People of the scripture! Do not exaggerate in your religion, and attribute to Allah nothing except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, was only a Messenger of Allah, and His word that He conveyed unto Mary, and a spirit from Him. So believe in Allah and in His Messengers, and do not say: trinity. Give up this assertion; it would be better for you. Allah is indeed just one Allah. Far be it from His glory that He should have a son. To Him belongs all that is in the heavens and in the earth. Allah is sufficient as a guardian. (4:171)

This view is also shared by Christian Unitarians who dismiss the doctrine of Trinity as a dogma with no biblical basis that was forced upon the Christians by the Roman Empire following the Council of Nicaea in 325 AD that declared Jesus as "consubstantial with the Father".

2. Rejecting the Belief in Murder of Jesus

Another contrast is Quran different view of the fate of Jesus. In Sura Nisa, Allah rejects the Jewish claim that they killed Jesus. Quran holds that someone else has been murdered instead of Jesus and he was raised to heavens:

And for their saying, "We have killed the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, the Messenger of God." In fact, they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him, but it appeared to them as if they did. Indeed, those who differ about him are in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it, except the following of assumptions. Certainly, they did not kill him. (4:157) Rather, God raised him up to Himself. God is Mighty and Wise. (4:158)

3. Anticipation of Muhammad by Jesus

Quran also states that Jesus had prophesized the coming of Prophet of Islam "whose name shall be Ahmad." This is mentioned in Sura Saff:

And remember, Jesus, son of Mary, said: "O Children of Israel! I am the messenger of Allah to you, confirming the Torah (which came) before me, and giving glad tidings of a messenger to come after me, whose name shall be Ahmad."… (61:6)

Allah in Sura A'raaf suggests that Jews and Christians can find the Prophet of Islam mentioned in their own scriptures:

Those who obey this Messenger, the untutored Prophet, whom they find mentioned in the Torah and the Gospel with them; who commands them to do good and forbids them from wrong and allows for them what is clean, and prohibits for them what is foul, and unloads the burdens and the shackles that are upon them. Those who believe in him, and respect him, and support him, and follow the light that came down with him, will prosper." (7:157)

In Sura Qisas, Allah praises a group of Christians and Jews who admitted that Quran was a scripture from their Lord as they could recognize its teachings; and because of their submission to Islam had to endure persecution by Pagans:

Those to whom We gave the Scripture before this believe in it (28:52) and, when it is recited to them, they say, 'We believe in it; surely it is the truth from our Lord. Indeed, even before it we had surrendered (had been muslim).' (28:53) These shall be given their reward twice over for that they patiently endured, and avert evil with good, and expend of that We have provided them. (28:54)

The Muslims believe in all the holy Prophets (May peace be upon them all). They do believe in Hazrat Jesus Christ (AS) a Prophet. He is also called by the Name of Messiah in the holy Qur'an. He was miraculously born to Virgin Marry (AS). He performed many miracles.

The Jews turned against him and tried to get him crucified at the hand of the Roman Governor, but Almighty God raised him alive to heavens.

He will descent from heavens before Qiyamat. He will marry, have children, die a natural death, and will be buried near the grave of the holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAW). He will rise up on the Day of Judgment with him.

Anybody who claims that he is Jesus Christ and has descended from heaven is not a Muslim. He is a false prophet sent by Satan as there have been many false claimants of prophet-hood before this time.

But the Muslims don't believe him the SON of Almighty God. The Muslims consider it the Greatest, Severest and Unpardonable sin to associate parents, off-spring, or Associate with Almighty God. He is the Sole Creator, Sustainer, Provider and Ruler of all the creation.
