And he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren" (Genesis 16:12). The descendants of Isaac and Ishmael are brothers, but these peoples have been party to a bitter rivalry from the first.
Though Muslims accept Jesus as a great prophet, they do not believe Him to be the Son of God. This is quite distasteful to them at a minimum as they believe God is God and there is no other or need for a son. Some have suggested that the revelation to Muhammed in the cave in 610 AD via the angel Gabriel was in fact heavily influenced by the merchant interactions he had in Mecca and Medina at that time. Futhermore, the then idea of a trinity involved Mary, the mother of God which was totally rejected by the Islamist (rightly so as there is no Scriptural support for a trinity much less with Mary involved).
