Jesus was one who preached in Matthew 25:31-46 that one of the ways in which we attain our salvation is through service to the poor. Many of the saints have taken this to heart, Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta was one recent example. Saint Vincent de Paul, who started the Sisters of Charity was another famous Christian who preached service to the poor.
John Calvin preached that salvation was given by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ. That no man is saved through anything which is within himself or another person but only through the work of Jesus as He died as an atoning sacrifice for the sins of all who would believe.
The ministers of the Great Awakening preached that salvation could only be gained through the acceptance of God's grace and the confession of sins.
