ANTHONY CANE has written: 'PLACE OF JUDAS ISCARIOT IN CHRISTOLOGY'
Matthias was chosen as the successor to Judas Iscariot among the Twelve Apostles. He was selected through a process of prayer, lots, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, as described in the book of Acts in the New Testament.
Nothing certain is known about Judas Iscariot other than what is in the New Testament. The gospels say that he was chosen to be a disciple of Jesus. The Gospel of John says that he was given the bag containing the communal money. Then all the gospels agree that he went to the priests to betray Jesus in return for money. The betrayal took place in the Garden of Gethsemane. Matthewsays that Judas repented and returned the money to the priests and then went away and hanged himself. Acts says that Judas bought land with the money, but fell down headlong and died.An extra-biblical suggestion is that Judas Iscariot was a literary invention. First century Jews did not normally have surnames at all, making "Judas Iscariot" an unlikely name for a real Jew. But the name Judas is synonymous with Jews, while the name Iscariot could be a derivation of the Latin word Sicarius, which means 'assassin': so Judas Iscariot can be read as "Jewish assassin", just what he did become.
They chose somebody to take Judas Iscariot's place amongst the 12, & they prayed non-stop, for 9 days.
Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon. 'Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil? He spoke of Judas Iscariot of Simon: for it was he that was to betray him, being one of the twelve.' Ref: John 6:70/71. - 'And they came to a place that was named Gethsemane....' Ref: Mark 14:32. 'And while He was yet speaking, behold a multitude; and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve apostles came before them, and drew near to Jesus to kiss Him: and Jesus said to him, Judas, betrayest thou the son of man with a kiss?' Ref: Luke 22:47/48. Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus with a kiss, in so doing indicating to the servants of the Chief priests, scribes and elders, that the kissed person is confirmed by him to be Jesus Christ, of whom they seized.

The longest book in the bible is Psalms it has 150 divisions (or chapters) and all the others have about 25-30 chapters.AdditionallyLikewise, Psalms is also the longest book with respect to the number of verses and the number of words. Book of Jeremiah comes second place for the largest number of words.
Judas iscariot was the one who betrayed Jesus to the Pharisees for 30 pieces of silver. He took them to the place where Jesus and his disciples where, and then he gave Jesus a kiss, to show them which one was Jesus. This might sound weird, if it weren't for the fact that Jesus would have looked so ordinary they couldn't tell him apart from anyone else. Also, giving his 'master,' Jesus, a kiss would not have appeared strange in bible times. That would be an ordinary way to greet a great friend...
In Acts Peter says the death of Judas was prophesied in Psalms and also Peter quotes another Psalm which he understands to mean that after Judas' defection, a replacement must be appointed to fill his office. Act 1:20 "For it is written in the Book of Psalms: 'LET HIS DWELLING PLACE BE DESOLATE, AND LET NO ONE LIVE IN IT'; and, 'LET ANOTHER TAKE HIS OFFICE.' So we can say the Holy Spirit/God led Peter to make this descision
Probably all of them were from the same small area of Galilee with the exception of Judas Iscariot who was (as his name suggests) from Iscaria, a place near Judea. We know that Peter and Andrew were brothers as were James and John all of whom were fishermen on the Sea of Galilee, so were all from the same place. The other seven disciples (not counting Judas) were also from that area.
Saint Peter and the other apostles prayed for guidance and cast lots to choose Judas' replacement, following the Old Testament tradition. Matthias was then chosen by lot to replace Judas as one of the Twelve Apostles.
No Judas did not work in the "church". There were no "churches" as we know them today. In Israel where all the gospel took place there was the temple in Jerusalem and then in other towns and villages there were Synagogues. But the only workers in these places of worship were the priest's and others from the tribe of Levi. We are not told much about Judas before he attached himself to Jesus' group, but we are told that soon Judas was the one who carried the money bag (John 12:4-6). And as we are told Judas is the man who betrayed Jesus. From what we see in Judas' character he was not even a good Jew, not believing in the true God.
