There were many qualifications for a book to be included in the Bible but the main issue is the divine inspiration of the work. I'm sure there were many other writings or gospels of other authors that were written but are not including in the Bible either. Mary's relationship to Jesus doesn't really have anything to do with it if the book is not divinely inspired.
