I personally have no actual experience with Tibetan Monks, but I have heard stories from those who have actually witnessed and lived with them. Its extraordinary once you get used to it I've heard. It takes a lot of self discipline and a lot of will power. At first, it's difficult, but it's worth it. I was told you become enlightened. I was also told by one that you have to fast sometimes. Basically, its hard at first and will test your dedication, self discipline, and edurance. If you can master these, you become enlightened and come out a better person. This is a basic answer. You may get more detailed ones later on from those who have done it.
if you refer to Catholic monks, they are called the Order of Preachers. Noted congregations to these are Franciscans and Dominicans....
Monks are supposed to be celibate (unmarried) so they rarely have children. A few monks are people who have had children in early life and then become monks in later life.
It's just a phrase meaning that things are great. "This is the sort of life everyone wants to lead."
Please rewrite. The question needs work to answer. If you are asking how long they remained monks it was for life.
Sort of like cheat codes.
Not necessarily. Many religions have monks. Monks are people who withdraw from ordinary life to pursue their religious beliefs on a daily basis. So you can have Christian monks, Buddhist monks, Hindu monks, etc. Islam does not have a similar tradition though.
The Carolingian Monks were known for living on their own, not in groups. Carolingian Monks lived a life of solitary, traveling from one village to another to give wisdom and insight.
Monks were, and are, men who are devoted to religious life. They live in buildings called monasteries. So monks are people are monasteries are buildings, so in that way they are not alike at all.
The two primary tasks of Buddhist monks are (1) to learn Buddhist scriptures which is called Pariyatti and (2) to meditate to become enlightened which is called Paripatti. To make it brief, learning and meditation are the routine life of Buddhist monks.
.Catholic AnswerIn the twenty-first century, there are all kinds of monks. Most Benedictine monks live a thoroughly modern life. They still wear a habit, basically unchanged for centuries, although lighter and more simple than earlier habits. Their diet is little different than anybody else, they teach school, work in parishes, etc. Carthusians, who are more hermits than monks, live a very austere life, not so modern. But both of them are Catholics, not Amish, so they use electricity, etc. The only thing that is not "modern" about any of the religious orders, is that they are genuinely trying to lead a religious life based on the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity, and obedience. These three vows are about as far away as you can get from "modern" values as can be imagined. In that way, no they cannot live a modern life without ceasing to be monks.
