Antisemitism as it is used in the English language today refers to discrimination against Jews. While Arabs (and certain others) are also Semitic peoples, the English term "antisemitism" was coined (around 1860) to refer to discrimination against Jews. Antisemitism was designed to sound much more scientific, and therefore more acceptable, than the common term for this hatred of Jews "Judenhass" (which literally means "Jew-hatred" in German).
ANTI-SEMITISM or JUDENHASS refers to the hatred of Jews that led, in the 19th century, to Jews embracing Zionism or Jewish Nationalism.
Hatred of Jews, regardless of whether or not it is irrational, is called Anti-Semitism.
It's based on the root (andr-) of the Greek word for man, just as the term misogyny is based on the root (gyn-) of the Greek word for woman. If you meant hatred for mankind, that's misanthropy.
