Abraham's destination was the land of Canaan.
God told Abraham (Genesis ch.12) to "go to the land that I will show you." Interestingly, the following verses state that Abraham journeyed to reach Canaan (today's Israel) - and arrived there, but they don't say that God specified that land (until later, after Abraham had arrived, and God promised him the land of Canaan as an inheritance).
We may suggest several answers:
1) Perhaps God did tell him, but the Torah doesn't record it.
2) Abraham simply followed through on the plan of Terah, who had also once wanted to go to Canaan (see Genesis, end of ch.11).
3) Abraham knew the tradition that Noah had promised the land of Canaan to the Semites (Rashi commentary, Genesis 12:6).
4) The fact that Adam and Chava (Eve) were buried in Canaan (in Hebron) suggested that it was a holy land.
5) Abraham's own sixth sense for holiness pulled him toward Canaan.
