God's annual Holy Day, Yom Kippur or the "Day of Atonement" pictures the "complete atonement" of God.

The account of it is found in Leviticus 16 - and it still isn't complete... though many people believe in error that Jesus has already completed it.

A study of Leviticus 16, however, pictures, following the "sin offering of the goat" [the slain Christ], the "High Priest" [the resurrected Christ] entering into the Most Holy Place [going to heaven, to the right hand of the Father] to intercede on behalf of the transgressions of His people.

But the observance doesn't end there... it is NOT YET COMPLETE!

The high priest, who pictures our "... Great High Priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God..." - Heb.4:14 -- COMES BACK TO THE PEOPLE [Jesus' prophesied return to earth - which hasn't happened yet].

The high priest "returns from the Most Holy Place" [Christ returned from heaven] to lay all the sins of the world that He temporarily bears for His people for a time in heaven, upon the head of the "aza'zel" goat [the "goat of departure," scapegoat].

Jesus hasn't returned from heaven and done this yet.

"... Aaron [the High Priest] shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, and confess over him ALL THE INIQUITIES OF THE CHILDREN OF Israel, and ALL THEIR TRANSGRESSIONS IN ALL THEIR SINS, putting them upon the head of the goat, and SHALL SEND HIM AWAY BY THE HAND OF A FIT MAN INTO THE WILDERNESS: and the goat shall bear upon him all their iniquities unto a land not inhabited: and he shall let go the goat in the wilderness." (Lev.16:21-22)

The fulfillment of this prophecy is found in Revelation 20 after Jesus returns, with the binding and sealing of Satan.

"...I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. And he laid hold on the Dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, and cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season." (Rev.20:1-3)

The atonement isn't "complete" yet.

Presently, Jesus Christ, like the high priest in Leviticus 16, is still in heaven interceding for the transgressions of His people.

He hasn't returned from the Most Holy Place yet, to lay the sins of the world, that He has borne, upon the head of him whose sins they truly are - Satan the Devil.

When King Jesus returns, He will divest Himself of His burden and place it upon the one whose burden it has always been.

"...and unto them that look for Him shall He appear the second time WITHOUT SIN unto salvation." (Heb.9:28)
