Yes there are records of Jews being enslaved in Egypt, but back then they wee simply called israelites. The were enslaved a little after 1700, maybe 1780 BC. They became slaves because there was such a large amount of them in Egypt that the pharaoh at the time felt as if they could somehow overpower him and his people and ake over Egypt.
