Roman Catholic AnswerIt didn't "change". Older, Catholic translations, like the Douay-Rheims (the most widely used English translation pre-Vatican II) used the name "The Apocalypse of St. John the Apostle" for the last took of The Bible. Protestant Bible translators have used the term "The Revelation to Saint John". This is a not a change, or even a way of looking at things, the two words mean exactly the same thing in religion. The Catholic term "Apocalypse is drawn from the Greek word, "Apokolypsis" which means "revelation" or "unveiling". The Douay-Rheims translation tended to keep Latin and Greek terms in tact if there was no suitable English translation at the time. I suspect that Catholics authors started to use "Revelation" during the post-Vatican II period when a certain type of churchman was trying to downplay the differences between Catholics and protestants. The translators of the Authorized Version used the word, "Revelation" for the Apocalypse, and in a spirit of ecumenism the modern Catholic translators are using it. Either term is fine.

What kind of literature is Apocalyptic language in the bible?

The Collins Dictionary defines "apocalypse" [with small "a"] as a prophetic disclosure or revelation, and "Apocalypse" [with capital "A" ] as the Book of Revelation in the Vulgate and Douay versions of the New Testament. As a generalization, the word Apocalypse is used by Roman Catholics and Revelation by Protestants, but it is the same book. It is a book of prophecy about the End-times (which I believe we are now in) and the End of the World, and would be classified as 'Eschatological' .
