One is generally considered too late for Sunday Mass if they arrive after the Gospel has been proclaimed, as this marks a significant part of the liturgy. However, arriving during the homily or shortly thereafter may still allow for participation in the remainder of the service. It's always best to enter quietly and respectfully, minimizing disruption to others. If you're uncertain, checking with the local parish guidelines can provide clarity.
A Catholic is bound to attend Sunday Mass and Holy Days of Obligation under pain of mortal sin. The bare minimum, if we speak according to the law and not the spirit, that a Catholic must be present for in regard to the Mass is from the time of the Offertory to the Communion of the priest. If one arrives too late or leaves too early in respect this portion of the Mass, one has not fulfilled their Sunday obligation and must attend another Mass that day.

We're required to go once a week and that has to be either on Sunday or on Saturday afternoon/evening. Mass is offered every day, in most places, so of course we can go more often if we want. There are also Holy Days of Obligation, too, that require us to go to mass, but they don't happen regularly. Christmas is one of these. If Christmas doesn't happen on a Sunday, we go to mass anyway.
"it's too late" has the correct spellings.
