Although he went down to Egypt later, most of Jeremiah's work was in and around Jerusalem, towards the end of the 5th millennium BCE (according to traditional chronology).

AnswerHistorians have established with reasonable certainty that the Babylonian Exile took place in 586 BCE. Jeremiah worked in Jerusalem during the latter part of the reign of Jehoiakim (c 635-597), urging him to surrender to Nebuchadrezzar, and until the time of the Exile. He then fled to Egypt where he settled in Tahpanhes in the eastern delta, and continued to provoke the anger of his fellow Judeans, on one occasion over their continued worship of the 'queen of heaven' (Jereremiah 44).
