While he was young and still in his father Bethuel's house, they lived in the town of Nahor (Genesis ch.24). When he grew and had his own household, Lavan (Laban) lived in Haran (ibid. ch.28), where his great-grandfather had lived (ibid. ch.11).

The towns of Nahor and Haran were in northern Mesopotamia. Haran is located on the Balikh river, about 130 miles (210 km.) east-northeast of modern Aleppo; and Nahor is in the same area, a day's journey away.
