It is about the Magi who visited Jesus after his birth with presents of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Although the Bible does say how many there were and does not call them Kings, the tradition of Three Kings has arisen.
We do this to represent the three kings giving presents of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh to Jesus when he was born. We also do this to show other people that they are special to us.

In Barcelona, Christmas is celebrated on December the 24th, with a big family dinner and presents being opened, as we have on Christmas Day. Also, the Three Kings is another major day, celebrated on January 6th, with a procession of the kings through the city. When the children return from watching the procession, the find that the kings have left them presents!
